Bigcommerce Release Notes – November 2015

Release Notes Summary

Here is an organized list of all the changes made to the Bigcommerce platform during November 2015. A few changes listed in the Bigcommerce release notes that we thought should be highlighted are included in our summary list.

  • A major bug that was causing store owners to refund orders twice. (If you have refunded any orders in the past 60 days we recommend you review your credit card processor to validate there are no duplicate refunds.)
  • Braintree / Paypal support as been added to New Zealand, Malaysia, Singapore and Hong Kong.
  • Fixed a bug with the product review CAPTCHA plug-in that was not validating. This should show improvements of spam reviews if you were receiving any.
  • Customer order counts have been added to the Customer > Export feature.
  • Order time and device purchased on have been added to the Orders > Export feature.
  • You can now “copy” Customer Groups, meaning the settings and discount rules (not the customers assigned to it).

Full Bigcommerce Release Notes – November 2015

The full list of Bigcommerce release notes is posted below and was collected from their forum. The arrangement has changed and is sorted chronologically per section type.

Categories

[bug-fix]
With a store that has a large amount of categories, if the merchant attempted to change the store’s category URL structure under Setup & Tools > Store Settings > URL Structure, the update category URLs button did not appear to function. There was no error presented to the client in the control panel. We have fixed this issue.

Discounts/Coupons/Gift Cert.

[bug-fix]
Merchants were unable to create an “order at least X of product Y, get free to specific shipping zones” discount rule. Trying to create the rule would redirect to the “View Discount Rules” page with the message “Error Invalid rule” visible. This has been fixed.

[bug-fix]
We have fixed the issue when discount rules with a duration having a start date in 2015, it did not allow the selection of an end date for the rule from January 1, 2016 through October 11, 2016. Attempting to set the end date within this range resulted in an error.

[bug-fix]
When using bulk/tiered discount rule, if a percentage discount was set, the amount that displayed in the cart message showed the dollar amount discounted rather than the percentage discounted. In addition, the dollar amount was shown as a percentage which was confusing to the customer. We have fixed this issue by showing the discounted percentage.

[bug-fix]
We have fixed an issue when discount rules were not being paginated in the control panel. Pagination should appear when there are more than 20 discount rules. Instead, the page showed more than 20 discount rules and the “Show next 10 discounts” button was not functional.

Payments

[bug-fix]
For payment setup with eWay New Zealand (Hosted) and eWay UK (Hosted) modules, the links to register accounts were broken. It has now been fixed.

[new-feature]
For Braintree / Paypal payment integration, we have now added support for 4 additional regions, including New Zealand, Malaysia, Singapore and Hong Kong.

[bug-fix]
When a client was using automatic tax settings, and the store was set to enter prices inclusive of tax, and had a discount that deducts a percentage of an order, this resulted in order totals calculating out to 3 decimal places, even when the default currency was set to 2 decimal places. When the customer tried to checkout, this order total with 3 decimal places was sent to the payment gateway, which then error out, generally complaining of an “Invalid Amount”. We have fixed this issue.

[bug-fix]
We have fixed a UI issue on the order page when multiple refund/capture requests were submitted when a merchant accidentally enter multiple keyboard/mouse input at the same time. For example, if a merchant chose to submit a refund from the control panel, pressing “Enter” while “Full Refund” was selected, then quickly selecting Partial Refund and clicking the “Refund” button. This resulted in two refunds instead of just one. Another example is to hit the enter key multiple times after selection capture or refund on the drop-down box. This resulted in multiple captures or refunds to send to the payment gateway. We have fixed this issue by only allowing the initial request to be sent in these scenarios.

Product Filtering (Faceted Search)

[bug-fix]
Products disappeared from category pages if all products in the category were hidden but products from subcategories should display based on display settings. This has been fixed.

[bug-fix]
When an option was deleted, it should have been removed from the list of facets available on the Product Filtering page in the control panel. However, if a built-in facet was the last facet in the list, when an option corresponding to a facet higher in the list was deleted, the facet was not removed from the list. Once a facet is orphaned in this manner, there did not appear to be a way to remove it. If an option is created using the same display name as an orphaned facet, the orphaned facet began to show products attached to it as SKUs were added to products using that option. However, deleting that option, even after moving it to the end of the list of facets, caused the facet to appear as an orphan again. We have fixed this issue.

Products

[bug-fix]
We have fixed the regression when clicking on a product image, the modal dialog box displayed a blank pop-up.

[bug-fix]
The minimum and maximum purchase quantity setting for products was ignored when modifying that product’s cart quantity from the shopping cart page. This allowed shoppers to place orders that are less than or greater than the minimum or maximum purchase quantity for that product. We have now fixed this.

[bug-fix]
In the situation when products go below their low inventory level, go to the “Out Of Stock” tab in the “View Product” page. Navigate back to the control panel dashboard and click on the link to view products with low inventory level, you would get right back to the Out of Stock tab and it did not display the low inventory level products. This has been fixed.

[bug-fix]
When the CAPTCHA was enabled for product reviews on a store, it did not seem to be doing anything. It could be left completely unfilled and the review would still be submitted and showed up in the client’s control panel. We have fixed this by displaying an error message indicating failure of the CAPTCHA process in this scenario.

Storefront

[bug-fix]
We have fixed a regression bug which displayed a 404 error when content page has been set as the homepage.

Taxes

[bug-fix]
When products were using “Inventory by options” and had SKU’s assigned with inventory, the RRP on product pages displayed price including tax, even when tax settings are not set to display. This also happens when tax settings are set to use automatic tax calculation (Avalara) as long as any tax rates are enabled. We have fixed this.

Google AdWords

[bug-fix]
In Advanced Settings > Affiliate Conversion Tracking, saving AdWords conversion code twice modified the code replacing some text with extraneous characters. For example, after saving the conversion code with text, “&currency_code=usd”, it was replaced with “&currency_code=usd”. Then saving it again replaced the string with “┬Ący_code=usd”. We have fixed this.

Import & Export

[new-feature]
We have added “customer order counts” to be included when merchants export customer information via Customers > Export.

[bug-fix]
If a product has SKUs assigned to options or product level rules, the custom fields did not get exported when using the Bulk Edit template. This has been fixed.

[new-feature]
For exporting orders, we have added the order time and on what device the product was ordered from, to the output file.

[bug-fix]
When creating an export template, configuring fields inside the product tab lead to a field labeled “Code”. We have renamed the field to “Product SKU” to make it more clear what this field represents.

Shipping

[bug-fix]
For Endicia shipment, if an address includes a forward slash “/”, the printed address label was replaced with a space. For example, “38 1/2” prints as “38 1 2”. We have fixed this issue.

[bug-fix]
When configuring UPS Ready for the first time, using an ampersand in the Company Name field resulted in this error: “Oops, UPS says there is a problem with your input. UPS error message : The XML document is not well formed”. We have fixed this to allow for special characters in the company name field.

Authentication & Login

[bug-fix]
We have fixed a regression bug that affected stores with private SSLs redirecting requests to a temporary URL with login.bigcommerce.com causing a SSL error.

[bug-fix]
After a period of inactivity, the Control Panel refreshed the inner content to display the login page instead of presenting the modal dialog box for login. After logging in, the page resulted a Control Panel within the original Control Panel. This has been fixed.

Checkout

[bug-fix]
A small number of stores experienced a regression when customers add products to cart and go to the cart or select checkout, they were taken to the cart page with the message : “There are no products in your cart”. Going back into the store and the cart items were still retained in the cart indicator. This has been fixed.

Currencies

[bug-fix]
The action menus for currencies did not display all the available menu items. It should display an “Edit” item for all currencies and “Set as default” for all non-default currencies. We have fixed this regression.

Customers

[bug-fix]
In the Customer Groups page, we have added a copy option in the action drop-down list. This copy action duplicates the discount rules and any categories assigned to the group, but does not copy the members in the original group.

Security

[bug-fix]
We have fixed an issue to enforce all the store requests only be accessed over HTTPS when the site-wide HTTPS flag is enabled for the store. We did this by marking all the cookies with the “secure” flag.

These Bigcommerce release notes were collected from their forum but compiled by our staff and a few typos corrected. If you have any questions about what some of these changes mean and how they might affect your store let us know in the comments below.

As I mentioned in the summary section we really suggest that you check with your payment provider if you refunded any orders over the past 60 days. There is potential for duplicate refunds.
